Nonprofit / endowment funding for journalism

http://www.poynter.org/column.asp?id=45&aid=180560, an analysis of someone else’s model of endowment support of news (extremely pessimistic).

Some key concepts: few nonprofits/charities of any sort are fully funded by donations/endowments.

Subscriptions are a key.

Free/cheap news is of very poor quality. Expensive sources (like American Banker, nearly $900/year) produce good news.

My mother always told me that banks have the nicest buildings in town because they have all the money.
